Shaggy Chic' Suri Ranch, LLC, was organized in Feb. of ’04.  After visiting several alpaca ranches, it was decided that Suris would be the breed choice, and the breeding program would be for blacks and silvers. (I had NO idea how many color combinations could produce light fawn! :)

Starting only with 2 adult females, one gelding and one juvi male, and one juvi female, it seemed that the little alpaca herd would never grow. However, three years later we now have 66 of these magnificent animals grazing their share of the 50 acres Brian and I call home. I greatly enjoy traveling with my animals to various shows and competitions in other states.

I’ve never met an alpaca rancher who wasn’t delighted to share his or her knowledge and experience with alpacas. www.aoba.org is a good place to learn more about alpacas.

For me this is now a full time business, and the further I go with alpacas the more my interest peaks in learning all the ins and outs of spinning and weaving with alpaca, as well as knitting and crocheting with alpaca yarn. Of course, it goes without saying that I am constantly working on the improvement of my fiber for just such high end projects. Thursday nights are reserved for my knitters group that meets at Michelle's Craft store in Paris, Tx, from 5 - 7pm. What a group we are!

We shear once a year, the annual harvest from alpacas. The product line made from alpaca is incredible.  From yarn to finished knit goods, woven fabric, berber rugs, socks, Teddy Bears and so much more. Be sure to visit The Mall to see various product lines. With proper care, garments made from alpaca will last and be beautiful for approximately 100 years. It is common for alpaca garments to become family heirlooms, handed down from generation to the next.

I think often of the lyrics of Green Acres theme song, and can attest that the country life certainly IS the place for me!

Friends, neighbors, kids and grandkids love to come here to relax and tour the property. I will never tire of seeing the expression on the face of a youngster seeing and holding a cria for the first time. My goal is to one day have the "funnest" place to go in Fannin County, and for people to say chic (pronounced sheek) when they see our ranch name and not chick
